Day 2

Woke up feeling refreshed after a very good night’s sleep.  After a late breakfast we set off for our first activity – a lecture from Ann Widdecombe called ‘Life after Politics’.  She was brilliant – her usual forthright self but full of hilarious stories about her days on Strictly, on the Strictly tour when partnered by Craig!! - in panto and on other TV programmes.  She spoke for about 40 minutes without notes and then took questions on a range of topics from Trump, Brexit, Scottish independence and Mrs T to her Strictly outfits and whether she had suffered the ‘Strictly Curse’!  Afterwards she did a signing and photos and was really lovely with everyone.

After a quick look round the shops, it was time for lunch in the Golden Lion pub.  Fish and chips for Elizabeth (no surprise there!) and cottage pie for Graeme followed by treacle sponge and custard – all very nice and someone has to eat it or it’ll get left!

Despite having eaten too much, it would have been remiss not to go for afternoon tea which was up to the usual standard whilst we were entertained by the string quartet.  Whilst we were waiting to get in Graeme rushed back to the cabin to get the camera and bumped into Ms Widdecombe in the lift (who was stridently announcing on each floor which way the lift was going and asking those waiting to use it if they were going up or down!)

Graeme has enjoyed trying to (too many distractions) watch a couple of Premier League matches on the TV in the cabin and we’ve kept our eye on the test in Bangladesh thanks to Sky News.

Tonight was the 'Victoriana Ball' and we enjoyed dressing up.  We were one of only about 3 couples who dressed in the theme.  The other 2 won a prize; we missed out as we weren’t in the ballroom at the right time to be ‘pre-selected’.  The evening started with a drinks reception with the Captain of the ship and the senior staff then we had yet another delicious dinner.  We didn’t do much dancing tonight – not easy to dance in a long dress – but Darren would be proud to know that we did attempt the Mayfair Tango!

Selfies not quite working!
